Authorities of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection have a canine officer to thank for the largest fentanyl drug seizure ever recorded at a port of entry. The epic bust took place at the Arizona border.
A total of 254 pounds of the fentanyl was hidden inside a floor compartment in an 18-wheeler truck carrying cucumbers. As it attempted to enter the Mariposa port of entry, the dog alerted.
Even more startling is the fentanyl could have killed 115 million people or a third of the entire population of the United States.
Also seized was 395 pounds of methamphetamine. With an estimated street value of $4.6 million, the two drug busts are being credited to the canine officer.
In a report filed by AZ Central, Guadalupe Ramirez who works in border crossings in Arizona, shared, “This is the largest fentanyl seizure in any port of entry. In CBP, in the history of CBP, this is the largest fentanyl seizure.”
