One of the worst things that can happen to a dog owner is learning their beloved pet has gone missing. Recently, a missing dog in Texas showed up at the headquarters of the Odessa Police Department.

What makes this story unusual is the dog seemed to be “turning himself in” and reporting himself as missing! He placed his front paws up on the clerk’s front desk counter and smiled at everyone. It was as if he was saying, “Hey, Mom is freaking out right now, so let her know where I am, okay?”

Sergeant Rusty Martin happened to be working at the time, so he snapped some photos and later posted them online. He found out the dog’s name was Chico and he was reunited with his owner.

The cops had a little bit of fun and shared on Facebook, “We’re thinking he wanted to apply for a K-9 position after eliminating a Lassie type situation. He was given lots of love and attention until he decided it was time for him to leave.”

We love that this smart pooch turned himself in and received a happy ending back home where he belongs.
