Stray Rescue of St. Louis received a call regarding a dog who had been living in the filthy garage of an abandoned house. The person who called told the rescue that this is where a lot of neighbors pile their junk, trash, and unwanted belongings.

Although the people who dumped this poor pup consider him trash, rescuers knew he didn’t belong there.

When they arrived, they found him sitting on piles of garbage, surrounded by more trash, an old mattress, and a broken toilet. He was so happy to finally see people who wanted to help him. He started wagging his tail a mile a minute.

Rescuers carried him out of the garage and held him tightly. He was so relieved to finally be safe that he buried his face in the rescuer’s arms. He continued to bury his head on his freedom ride.

They brought him to the vet, where they treated his eyes and wounds and kept a close eye on the swelling and irritation. Thankfully he has a great appetite and is in good spirits.

They decided to name this sweet pup Chowder, and now he is looking for a foster home so he could continue to heal in comfort. Once he is fully healed, he will be available for adoption.

The ideal foster home is a home with no other dogs. If you’re interested in fostering Chowder, please email Christina@strayrescue.org.
