Juliana lives in Brazil with her family and her beloved dog, Penelope. She is also 34 weeks pregnant and her pup seems to know it.
Juliana’s daughter posted a video on Facebook of Penelope cuddling up to her mom’s pregnant tummy on the couch. Each time Juliana covers her stomach, Penelope paws her hands away as if she’s saying “my turn!” She gently nudges it and rubs her face all over her human’s stomach.
The video quickly went viral and has since been viewed more than 11 million times. People all over the world were touched by this endearing moment.
Many people wonder if dogs can actually sense pregnancy, and the answer is yes. Although they may not understand that there’s a baby inside, they do know that something is different in a pregnant mother.
When a woman is pregnant, the hormones in her body alter her scent. Of course, dogs have an extraordinary sense of smell, so some dogs are able to detect pregnancy in a woman before she even knows she’s pregnant.
Dogs react in different ways to pregnancy. Some may become protective while others may be fearful. Dr. Rachel Barrack, DVM, says that many pregnant women say their dogs are more affectionate during the pregnancy.
It’s clear that Penelope definitely falls into that category! She shows nothing but love for her mom and baby human sibling to be! Watch it for yourself in the video below:
