When your dog is trying to tell you something, it’s in your best interest not to ignore them. Just ask Stephanie Herfel of Madison, Wisconsin. Her beautiful Siberian Husky, Sierra, was trying to tell her something. It’s a good thing that Herfel ‘listened’ to her dog because the sweet animal saved her owner’s life.
Herfel adopted Sierra from her son when he was ready to deploy for military service in 2011. At the time, Sierra was just nine months old. The dog kept sniffing at Herfel’s lower belly and would not stop doing so. Herfel thought maybe she spilled something on her shirt, but that wasn’t the case. She was having abdominal pain, so she decided to make a doctor’s appointment.
Thank goodness she did this because the woman was diagnosed with stage 3C ovarian cancer, and would need surgery, chemotherapy, and despite going into remission, the cancer returned.
Sierra did the sniffing alert again in 2015 and then again in 2016. Once again, the smart dog was right. Herfel shared on Facebook, “Her spirit does not just reflect with me; she smelled the location of a friends tumor as well.”
These days, Herfel is in remission and despite having more chemo, she credits Sierra with saving her life time and again. Way to go Sierra, and we wish your mom a happy, healthy, cancer-free life!
