Rescue workers from the Michigan Humane Society had their hands full when a call came in about a homeless dog named Raina and her litter of puppies. Raina apparently dug a hole and buried her puppies deep inside to protect them from the weather.
At the time, Detroit, Michigan, was getting a ton of heavy rain, and the mama dog instinctively knew she had to protect her pups. When a passerby heard crying and whimpering sounds coming from the hole, that’s when he got the Michigan Humane Society involved.
Thankfully, the rescuers were able to convince Raina to let them help. One by one, they rescued the pups from the damp earth.
After receiving medical care and shots, it was time to let the public know the pups needed forever homes. With a bevy of applications in hand, the rescuers came up with a clever way to choose the adopters.
Each person or family selected would get a number on adoption day. That number indicated the order in which they would choose their puppy.
Emotions poured and tears flowed as one by one, the puppies were selected for their forever homes.
