It’s not an uncommon sight to see fragile young puppies caged in the sweltering heat while being sold in the unregulated flea markets across the country. While most of these so-called traders claim their puppies come from “good backgrounds”, the truth is often disturbingly bitter and uncomfortable. In a hidden camera operation carried out by The Humane Society of the United States, it was found that most of the flea markets act as enablers to abusive puppy mills.

After scanning through 21 different flea markets in 10 different states, several puppies were traced back to grossly neglectful puppy mills operated by shady owners. The sellers make exorbitant amount of profits selling these helpless puppies, and the ones that remain unsold are either set loose or used in hunting sport.

With hundreds of such puppy sellers operating openly in flea markets, the situation of homeless dogs in the country only gets worse. Millions of shelter animals keep waiting for homes and get euthanized, while the ruthless mills keep churning out an endless supply of puppies. The only way to deal with this chronic problem is to completely boycott puppy sellers at flea markets.
