Can you even imagine being in the great outdoors, kicking back to take it all in and then BAM! Right next you is a Grizzly Bear, taking it all in with you. That’s what happened to one wildlife photographer, Drew Hamilton, who was camping along the McNeil River State Game Sanctuary and Refuge in Alaska.
We all know that Grizzly Bears, AKA, North American Brown Bear, are one of the most aggressive of all. With a bite that is said to be able to crush a bowling ball (Wikipedia), they are not an animal you want to upset. And oddly enough, they generally try to avoid people. But this big fella was clearly breaking all the ‘bear rules’ when he parked his furry butt right next to Drew.
So what does a photographer do when a giant Grizzly Bear sits next to them? Take a video of course! Check out just how crazy this moment is! The bear just rolls right on up, takes in the view, has a good morning yawn, and then sits down as if no one is there! It’s remarkable! Meanwhile, Drew is probably crapping his pants! I know I would be.
I can almost hear this bear saying, “Oh what a nice morning, the air is so crisp. Yawn. I’m still a bit sleepy. I think I’ll just sit here next to this human and scare the living daylights out of him. Maybe I’ll be viral on that internet thing. Man, this weather is fantastic, and I’m getting kind of hungry. I should go now.” Yeah, big guy, you’re definitely going viral for this one.
Drew starts to warn the bear as he leaves. The bear gives a nod as if to say, “Relax guy, I’d much rather eat salmon with my buddies than eat you.” And the bear takes off. As the camera turns you can see there are loads of bears in the water just having a grand ole time.
You never know what’s going to happen in the great outdoors. But you should always remember, that wildlife was there before you. In this case, Mr. Giant Grizzly Bear wasn’t afraid to do what he probably does every day just because a human was around.
