Gus is a Husky mix who was very unlucky as a puppy. He was born with a short right front leg, while his left front leg was so deformed that it had to be amputated. On top of that, his abusive owners just hated to see him. One day, they dumped him mercilessly in South Dakota.

Gus ended up with “Black Dog Animal Rescue”, but no one wanted to take a chance on the disabled pooch. Eventually, a woman named Melody Rezzonico fell in love with Gus’ bright smile when she first saw him!

Melody wasted no time and adopted Gus. When she brought him to her home in Laramie, Wyoming, her other dogs immediately befriended the sweet Gus!

The initial days were a challenge for Melody due to Gus’ mobility issues. He couldn’t eat or go to the bathroom like a normal dog, let alone play or frolic around.

After consultations with experts, Melody fixed Gus up with a custom-made wheelchair, and it became a game-changer for him!

Melody realized that Gus had the spirit of an adventurer. Once the mobility problem was solved, he quickly acquired a taste for hiking, backpacking, kayaking, and swimming!

However, the wheelchair would let him down on sandy or snowy terrains. So Melody contacted renowned animal orthotist, Derrick Campana, to explore other prosthetic options.

Inspired by Gus’ spirited outlook, Derrick made a prosthetic “body shell” which enabled Gus to cruise smoothly on tricky surfaces. Gus’ fighting spirit and journey raises hope for every disabled dog out there.

Gus’ family are trying to raise money to cover the cost of Gus’ new prosthetic leg. Donations can be made on their GoFundMe page. Spread the word.
