It’s common to see Double Dapple puppies suffering vision and hearing loss due to their faulty genes. Hope is one such Double Dapple Dachshund who was born deaf and blind due to irresponsible breeding. The breeder immediately wanted to kill Hope when he found that she had no eyes, but his wife stopped him and began raising the disabled dog.
Seven years later, the breeder’s wife passed away and he dumped Hope at a shelter with a choke chain around her neck. The workers saw that Hope was a gentle, well-mannered dog who was very comfortable around humans. So despite the pressure to put her on a kill list, the workers sent Hope to a nurturing foster home!
One day, Lauren Ann Kramer-Theuerkauf, from Freeburg, Illinois, was browsing puppies online when Hope’s angelic face caught her attention. She was touched by her story and immediately decided to adopt her! While the first few days were tough after the adoption, Hope soon got accustomed to her new home and flourished into a confident dog!
Lauren says that Hope is the smartest dog in her pack, as she never lets her disabilities stop her from living her life. She knows every corner of her home and has learned to climb the puppy stairs too. For everything else, she lets her amazing sense of smell help her navigate! This happy-go-lucky and playful girl is a beacon of hope for every disabled dog out there!
