In a huge victory for animal lovers (or any human, really!) Radoslaw Czerkawski, the man responsible for Puppy Doe’s death, has finally been found guilty of animal abuse.
Five years after Kiya, the Pit Bull mix, referred to in the media as ‘Puppy Doe’ had to be put down due to her severe injuries, is finally getting justice. Her abuser, a Polish national named Radoslaw Czerkawski, was sentenced on March 27 in Massachusetts. After his sentence was read, the courtroom erupted in tears of joy.
Radoslaw came to the United States in 2008 on a student visa. Kiya was found in 2013, abandoned in a park. She had a stab wound to her eye, multiple fractures to her skull and spine, as well as a split tongue.
Kiya won the hearts of thousands of people on social media, who took to a petition demanding the harshest punishment possible.
Finally, five years later, Radoslaw has been convicted of 12 counts of animal cruelty. He faces 8-10 years behind bars, two years probation and is banned from owning or coming into contact with any animals. After his sentence is served, he will be deported back to Poland.
Patch report says:
“Today was a historic day for animal welfare in Massachusetts. With the conviction and sentencing of Radoslaw Czerkawski, it has been demonstrated that people who commit animal cruelty, and in this case extreme cruelty, will be held accountable.
Ironically Puppy Doe’s short and tragic life was the impetus for stronger laws protecting all animals in the Commonwealth–and there’s still more work to do.”
The decision was posted on a Facebook site called ‘Justice for Puppy Doe.’ Hundreds commented on how the case affected them.
One person wrote:
“I will never forget the night I read the details of what he did to her…. it will haunt me forever. It changed me as a person, it made me fight more for animal rights. Puppy Doe did not die in vain… so much change for animals since that event… let’s keep at it. Harsher punishment for pieces of s**t. May he suffer a very long life.”
This trial was a long time coming (2013), but this monster was found GUILTY OF ALL 12 COUNTS!!!!!!!We hope you are…
