A police officer in the right place at the right time is the reason an abused puppy is alive today. An officer from the Knoxville Police Department was parked beneath a city overpass at 3 am. He heard something unusual and that’s when things got scary.
A loud male voice was heard coming from the overpass, believed to be about 29 feet and 9 inches high. The loud voice was mixed with cursing. Within moments, the officer heard a loud impact and a dog whining in pain.
He investigated and discovered a female puppy bleeding from her mouth, with abrasions all over her body, and what appeared to be a broken leg.
“Officers quickly transported her to the UT Veterinarian Medical Facility, where the staff determined that she did not appear to have life-threatening injuries,” Knoxville Police Department wrote on their Facebook page.
On return to the scene of the crime, officers found a wet spot on the overpass where the dog is believed to have been thrown. A car likely was parked in that spot.
Although no suspects have been named, police hope tips from the general public will lead to an arrest. Anyone who has information is asked to call police at 865-215-7212 or the Animal Control Unit at 865-215-8640.
