The ominous wildfires in the Greek town of Mati have become a painful history now. The tragic fires destroyed the entire town within a night, killing over 80 people, while the surviving residents evacuated in a state of panic. The fire was especially tough on the pets who got trapped and had nowhere to go.

This is the story of Loukoumakis, a 4-year-old Griffon breed dog, who survived the fire and lived in the wreckage of the fire for an entire week. Loukoumakis  was terrorized when he saw the smoke and the flames engulfing every corner of the town. In utter desperation, the suffocating dog had crawled into a brick oven to seek cover from the heat.

In this video, we see animal rescuer Artemis Kyriakopoulou entering the town after a week to see if there were any surviving creatures. Sure enough, she finds a singed Loukoumakis cowering inside the partially burnt oven. The dog is so relieved to see a human that he immediately jumps out and runs to greet Artemis with a wagging tail. The poor guy must have been so traumatized all this time!

As Artemis fed the starving Loukoumakis, she realized that he had sustained a fracture that caused him to limp. The rescuer revealed that Loukoumakis was too loyal to leave his home, and needed hours of convincing to follow her to the shelter.

As no one has come forward to claim Loukoumakis, the shelter fears that his owners could have perished in the fire. Loukoumakis has now been shifted into a foster home where he is recovering from his injuries with the help of antibiotics. Loukoumakis is a true survivor!
