Social media is responsible for helping so many animals find homes, but it is also used by abusers to share acts of hate against innocent pets. That’s exactly what happened in the case of a Clinton Township, Michigan, man and the abusive acts he committed against a dog.

Alarming video of a large shirtless man was posted to Snapchat in which he repeatedly hovers over a dog and punches him several times. The video went viral as people tried to find the person committing this heinous act.

More disturbing to Macomb County Animal Control Chief Jeff Randazzo is the fact that the man is being filmed by someone who does nothing to help.

Police offered a $2,000 reward to anyone who could help identify the person so an arrest could be made. One call came in that stood out above all the others to the founder of Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue.

The person who filmed the abuse tried to cash in and collect the $2,000 reward. He was not given the money but he also was not charged in the case. Prosecutors say there isn’t enough evidence to show he had “criminal intent” when posting the video to Snapchat.

The actual man who inflicted harm on the dog is expected to turn himself. The suspect does not own the dog he harmed, as the animal belongs to his cousin. Thankfully, the pooch was returned to its rightful owner, who was horrified by the crime.
