Mel, an eight-year-old Pit Bull, might need a wheelchair to get around, but that doesn’t stop him from traveling the country with his dad, Tom Dilworth.
Dilworth went to Yonkers Animal Shelter to see another dog but wound up adopting Mel instead. Dilworth went up to Mel, who laid his head on Dilworth’s leg, and in that moment, he knew he had to take him home.
Shortly after adopting Mel, Dilworth noticed that he had issues with his balance that continued to worsen over time. Dilworth eventually learned that Mel had a neurological disease that affects his balance.
While the disease did not cause Mel any pain, he had trouble walking on his own. With help from Eddie’s Wheels for Pets, Dilworth got Mel fitted for a wheelchair to help him get around.
Dilworth is a professional photographer who loves to travel the country, but he never goes anywhere without his loyal canine partner! Mel gets to explore beautiful new places with his dad and is loving his second chance at life.
