A video of a disgusted deputy is making its way around social media. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office sent a deputy out to a property, but no one expected the heartbreaking evidence he would encounter.
A 13-year-old dog named Miria was found in an emaciated condition, barely alive, unable to move or stand, laying in a pile of her own feces. Next to her neglected body, the deputy discovered 72-year-old Ronald Alan Winters.
Deputy James confronted Winters about the dog’s horrible condition, to which Winters was angered and seem unaffected. Two blankets were taken off the dog’s body, and Animal Services dubbed the dog a “1,” which means the worst condition possible.
They took the dog to a veterinarian where she had to be euthanized. Winters was taken into custody and charged with cruelty to animals. Authorities report there were two cats in need of medical attention taken from the property as well.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office decided to post bodycam footage of the incident to their Facebook page to call attention to the problem of animal abuse.
Accompanying the video, they wrote, “We’re posting this to ask you to please report cases of animal abuse and neglect before they get to this point. If you witness an animal suffering or have an animal that has needs you can no longer meet, please don’t ignore it. There are people out there who can help. For assistance from Volusia County Animal Services please call 386-248-1790.”
The actual video of the dog can be seen below. Please be warned this footage is hard to watch and may not be suitable for everyone.
