The cutest grump we have come to love, Grumpy Cat, passed away recently in her “mother’s loving arms.” Her death was due to complications from a urinary tract infection. At just 7 years young, the feline, whose real name is actually Tardar Sauce, became an internet sensation when a meme in 2013 depicted this adorable face:
After posting this photo with the cat’s ‘displeased’ look, Grumpy Cat’s rise to fame nearly happened overnight.
Grumpy Cat had 8.5 million Facebook fans, 2.4 million Instagram and 1.5 million Twitter followers, and 264,000 YouTube subscribers. Grumpy also had an endorsement with Friskies cat food and a book series.

The family stated on their goodbye post:
We are unimaginably heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved Grumpy Cat.
Despite care from top professionals, as well as from her very loving family, Grumpy encountered complications from a recent urinary tract infection.
Besides being our baby and a cherished member of the family, Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world – even when times were tough.
Her spirit will continue to live on through her fans everywhere.
Fans are understandably devastated:
The charismatic cat, despite the occasion, and “grumpy” mug on her face, never failed to make us laugh.
Grumpy often posed with famous celebrities, including Stan Lee. Now, these two can meet again on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.
The I Love My Dog team sends our deepest condolences to Grumpy’s family during this time of reflection and healing.
May Grumpy rest in peace, knowing she was adored by so many!
