Dogs are some of the smartest animals in the world, and they have very good instincts. When a dog is trying to alert its owner, chances are he wants you to know something isn’t right. That’s exactly what 3-year-old Golden Retriever, Kenai, did while out for a winter walk with her owner.
The dog started barking at something off in the distance. When his owner looked over, there sat an injured bald eagle on a branch by a body of water. They were able to track the eagle by following its delicate prints in the snow.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources was called, and the eagle was captured. The poor bird was so cold that his feathers were frozen. It is believed he had lead poisoning along with a shoulder injury.
This beautiful bird, the national symbol of the United States of America, was taken to a wildlife rehabilitation center to get well. Once his feathers thawed and he was given pain medicine, he was able to be transported to a higher level treatment facility.
Thank goodness for Kenai alerting his owner to the bird in the first place. The eagle is expected to make a full recovery, and he has man’s best friend to thank for it. Here’s the miraculous story you can watch below.
