California’s “Nine Lives Foundation” has shared the nauseating abuse story of their latest rescue kitten, Smurf, in an effort to raise awareness about the spread of dog-fighting rings. Smurf was heartlessly dyed purple by the dog-fighting kingpins in order to make him resemble a “chew toy” for dogs.

The San Jose animal shelter discovered Smurf dumped in a dying state from multiple bite wounds. Apparently, he was being repeatedly thrown to dogs as bait to induce fights. The poor kitten has many old scars and fresh wounds, and the shelter fears that he might not make it. Currently, Smurf is battling a severe fever and multiple infections at Nine Lives Foundation.

Veterinarian Monica Rudiger fears that the dog-fighting ring might be using other kittens and small animals as baits for training their dogs to fight. If you have any information on such suspicious activities going on in your neighborhood, please contact the authorities. Let’s spread the word and help the cops bust this notorious gang!

Update: Smurf’s caretakers have updated that the valiant kitten is finally out of danger! He is recovering well and has even befriended a blind cat named Wanda. Vets hope that the purple dye would fade away with time. There’s been no progress in finding the dog-fighting ring. Let’s stay alert and keep spreading the word!
