The annual Boston Marathon took place in Massachusetts recently, and runners got some much needed cheering on from their favorite canine fan. Spencer the Golden Retriever is one of cutest bystanders the competitors pass by during their long race.

In 2018, video of Spencer caught the eyes and clicks of folks on social media. The 2019 race proved to be a repeat dose of adorable encouragement.

“He goes from person to person to person,” Spencer’s owner, Rich Powers, shared with 7News. “He knows it’s a big deal.”

The dog dons a sweet raincoat while holding “We Are Boston Strong” flags from his mouth.

As runners crossed the two-mile mark of the 26-mile marathon, Spencer is seen routing them on towards their goal.

This year, Spencer had a pal join him for a double dose of motivation.

As the competitors raced past, some yelled to the pooch with things like “You’re a good boy” or “I remember you from last year.”

His owner looks forward to bringing the sweet pooch to next year’s race. In the meantime, people were very appreciative to have the dog out cheering them on.
