Alabama residents Terri and Josh knew their 4-year-old Great Dane, Velma, had been pregnant for quite some time. So when Velma went into labor, the couple was fully prepared and ready to assist the birthing mama in every way possible. But they never expected the doggie mama to keep popping out puppies every hour for the next 19 hours!

By the end of the excruciating labor period, Velma was sitting proud with her staggering litter of 19 puppies! As it turns out, this is one of the largest live-birth Great Dane litters in the entire world. Most Great Dane litters contain about 8-10 puppies, but Velma’s bunch is almost double in size!

All the puppies came out healthy and are doing well now. Velma is a happy mama who spends her time diligently nursing her little ones. As she cannot accommodate all the puppies as once, she takes turns feeding them throughout the day. To help the exhausted mama, Terri and Josh have begun using a goat milk and Esbilac formula to fulfill the growing puppies’ nutritional needs.

The couple hasn’t decided anything about the puppies’ forever homes. For now, they just want Velma to raise her babies in a relaxed and cozy environment. Terri and Josh weren’t prepared for such a huge litter, but they have promised to do everything to ensure these adorable puppies have great lives. We wish them good luck!
